(AXcess News) Washington - A snowstorm moving across the Northeast Friday has grounded hundreds of flights, first JetBlue this morning and now US airlines and Delta has followed suit and cancelled flight into and out of the area.  The New York metro airport has shut down thanks to the snowstorm as well.

In all, at least 1,000 flights have been cancelled as a late-winter storm halted travelers plans in the Northeast and New England.

Delta cut 250 flights into New York and Washington.  US Airways cut 410 flights.  JetBlue cut 230 flights and American cut 120 while Northwest cut 35 flights into the region.

The snowstorm has reportedly caused delays of up to three hours in Newark, the Newark Star-Ledger reported.

The National Weather Service says a seevre storm warning remains in effect for the Northeast until Saturday after 2pm.  Freezing rain mixed with snow is expected in many sttaes across the Northeast region of the county and where snowfall is heaviest, 3 to 4 inches can be expected this after across a wide area with up to a foot in some places.

The Weather Service said that travel will be difficlut because of the storm with a sharp lien between areas that can expect heavy rain and haevy snowfall.  "Although this line is expecetd to be between the Baltimore Washnigton metro area and the Blue Ridge, the exact placement will be determiend by each lcoations exact precipitation and snowfall totals," the Weather Service said.
