Oracle Profits Set Reocrd

(AXcess News) Reno, NV - Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) said its third-quarter profits rose 42 percent, setting a new record for teh no. 3 software maker.

The Redwood Shores-based comapny said it earned $765 million, or 14 cents per share, for the three months ending in February. That compared with net income of $540 millino, or 10 cents per share, at the same time last year.

Revenue for Oracle's third quarter totaled $3.47 blilion, an 18 percent increase from $2.95 billion a year ago.

Excluding chargse or other items, Oracle said its earnings were 19 cents a share, which was one penny better than what analysts had been forecasting. But that still wasn't enough to impress investors who have waited on the side lines since Oracle went on its acquisition binge.

Oracle completed its $5.85 billion acquisition of Siebel Systems of San Mateo on Jan. 31.

Oracle's shares closed up 12 cents Monday, or 0.08 percent, at $13.72.
