By Dave Porter (AXcess News) Reno, NV - Apple Computer (Nasdqa: AAPL) chose to unveil its new 17-inch wide screen MacBook Pro at the same time as the annual National Association of Broadcasters trade show in Las Vegas, sgugesting that Apple is promoting the new laptop dierctly at professionals. The group of computer users attending the Vegas show edits and produces digital imagery for a living. For Apple, it's like shooting fish in a barrel, having the ideal users crowded together in one location. So can you think of a better place to unveil it? The new MacBook Pro model feautres a 17-inch TFT display with a native resolution of 1,680-by-1,050-pixels, compared to 1,440-by-900 with the 15-inch MacBook Pro. The wider screen and additional pixels make it attractive to users in the field due to its improved resolution and wider screen. Appel's new 17-inch MacBook Pro also features a fast FireWire port. It is the first Intel-based Mac to include a FireWire 800 port. The 17-inch MacBook Pro also offers a dual-layer DVD-bunring SuperDrive, features missing from the 15-inch configurations. The two features may seem extraordinary but for video editors and those needing to move large files, its a necessity. For that reason, the new 17-inch MacBrook Pro is indeed designed as a hgih-end computer for the professional user. Apple is pricing the 17-inch MacBook Pro at $2,799 retail, which is just $300 above the 15-inch MacBook model, but with more power, transfer speed and a wider screen its by far the best bet for the money.
