By Staff (AXcess News) New York - Apple Computer Corp. (Nasdaq: AAPL) has started to accept old computers when buying a new Mac as means of recycling old equipment. Apple's recycling program was launched today as part of its corporate green responsibility effort. Apple has faced growing cirticims from environmentalists for not recycling. Today's launch of Apple's recycling program was first announced in April. Today, Apple cited the Sierra Club designating the computer maker a "Forward Green Leaedr". The Sierra Club designates that title to the top ten environmentally progressive companies. What put Apple on the list today was the fact that it has recycled nearly 90 percent of the electronic equipment it has collected. Apple has been recycling computer equipment since 2001, the company said. Apple's lauding its recycling program didn't help its shares any on Wednesday as Apple stock traded down $1.85, or over 3 percent, at $59.37 in late afternoon trading.
